We were taken across the ocean in a large boat
We got scared because of the large waves wondering how it stayed afloat
As they would tell us that we are going to the promise land
And you will have a new home and everything will be grand
As we stepped off the boat they had us on a large stand
When a man came and looked at our teeth then raised my hand
The crowd was yelling how much will he be
When I looked at my brother saying this isn’t being free
We can see the farm where we had to go and work
Looking at the man that was acting like a jerk
As we worked in his field all day long
I was happy that my back was still strong
Then one day we hear some great news
And we put our hope in God’s hand while we sang the blues
We see that the years have passed and we can talk about the time
That my foot stood on this land not having a dime
