Winter Lesson

I sit at the deck and watch the ripples as they go across the lake

And watch the neighbor as he piles the leaves up with his rake

The geese are starting to fly south for their winter home

And the wind is blowing the chimes in the churches dome

The fur on the animals are starting to get thick

And dad is making us pick up all the little sticks

The neighbor come by to help cut up the dead trees

As mom is out collecting the honey from our bees

I never understood why they made so much of a fuss

Because during school dad would drive the school bus

Then one day the snow flakes started to fall

The first morning we went outside to have such a ball

The snow keeps on falling as we are stuck in the house

And I watch Mom sit and sew her a new blouse

Dad went out to the porch to get some of the wood

As I look out I saw that the snow was as high as he stood

I remember how the warmth of from our cook stove felt

While we sat and watch nature gave us a large winter belt

Yes the wind blow so hard and the air was so cold

But because of the warmth of the stick this story can be told

A lesson was learned on those long cold winter days

When dad would tell us that there time for work and there is time for play
