THE CORNER STORE

We see that a lot of small business are coming to an end

But we sit and ask why but don’t want to look at how it first began

It use to be that there was a corner grocery store where we would by our food

Or there was a pharmacy where we would get our medical goods

Each store would have there own specials for our daily needs

And the prices would be fair and not for there own greed

When you walk in you would be greeted and called by our first name

And talk about the last local high school sports game

But we sat back and watch the stores as they started to combine

And inside you could even see a section to buy a bottle of wine

We never think of the distance to drive trying to save a dime

As we tell our self that we are really saving a lot of time

Now we hear as these companies are starting to merge

And we watch while their prices are slowly starting to surge

Many jobs have been lost because less people are needed

And some stores have cash registers where you don’t even get greeted

Our small corner stores are now just part of the past

And we start to complain because of the higher price of gas

The laws have been twisted to help protect the giant company against any lost

But now that want us to give and take our taxes to help pay for all of their cost

The web of strength can be repaired over these hard times

If we will start to see that everything shouldn’t be about the mighty dime

So as we watch our country while it’s starting to fall maybe this Christmas

We will look back and remember how our country was built on the small business
