If you sit and listen to the old man’s story
You will learn there wasn’t much glory
As a boy never got the time to play with his friends on the hill
Because he was forced to work helping to pay some of the bills
He tell how he would sneak out at night making money shining shoes
But most of it was spent buying some more booze
The beating would come over some of the littlest thing
When it was done to watch dad take moms wedding ring
Some of the money was hid when they were drunk
Just so we would have money for are school lunch
Then the family was split by the court one day
As some of use were put in a boys home to stay
The tears begin to flow as the bus started to leave
While he waves at his sisters standing under the tree
Years have passed and there have been a lot of ups and down
And yes there was a time when he was just wondering around
The wolves would come to the camp fire through the night
Just to make sure that everything would be alright
The Indians would give him food while he slept under a table
For there was no room even in their stables
There was a Christmas tree made from a cardboard box
As he pretended there were presents as he held the shinny rock
Can you see why he laughs when you think he doesn’t understand
Because everything isn’t going just as you have planed
You can give a weird look and think he has lost his mind
But just stop and think what he has been through over time
Yes life will not always be easy for you
But God will be there to help get you threw
